    • [ Read In Full ] DSE7000 SERIES ENHANCED WITH INDUSTRY LEADING FEATURES
    • 2008-05-06 15:26:03
  • Deep Sea Electronics is delighted to announce the addition of new industry leading features to the DSE7000 Series. All features are now available and units already in the field can be upgraded on-site to include these.  The new version of the software for this product is readily available to download from the download area of the website.

    New Features Include:

KW Overload Protection - This feature allows the user to Set KW protection to their required level.  If KW goes above this preset level for a user defined amount of time, the module will trip the breaker and cool the engine down before it stops.

Auto Voltage Sensing/Alternative Configuration (DSE73xx Only) -  This feature removes the need to re-configure the module when moving a generating set from one site to another site with a different wiring topology. The module will automatically detect the changes to the alternator wiring topology and re-configure itself accordingly.

Dual Mutual Standby - This feature is utilised in installations where two generators are installed to reduce the risk of failure.  The two generators can be configured to act as back up to each other in case of a failure, whilst also periodically transferring the load from generator to generator in order to balance the running hours.

Phase Rotation - This feature prevents the generator from running if connected incorrectly.

Earth Fault Trip (DSE73xx only) - In the event of an earth fault being detected the control module will protect the generating set and provide a controlled shutdown.

Negative Phase Sequence (Unbalanced Load) - If the load is unbalanced the control module will prevent damage to the alternator by disconnecting the load and cooling the engine down before it stops.

Edison Delta Topology (3 Phase 4 Wire) - This allows the user to configure the module to work with a different alternator configuration. The addition of Edison Delta wiring support is a reflection of the products flexibility within a truly global market.

Water Heater Control - This feature is used to control engine heating devices when operating engines in cold climates.

Water Cooler Control - This feature is used to control engine cooling devices when operating engines in warm climates.

Dual Function ‘Stop and Panel Lock’ Input Option - A digital input is provided to place the module in stop mode and lock the front panel so that it cannot be started. This feature could be utilised when maintenance work is being carried out.

    • [ Read In Full ] DSE ADVISES MAJOR UK AIRPORT ON GENERATOR UPGRADES
    • 2007-08-30 09:10:51
  • Power back-up systems at Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBIA) required upgrading in 2007 and Rollo UK (Leeds) were commissioned to carry out a site survey and design the upgraded system, utilising existing generator sets.

Rollo engineers required Deep Sea Electronics expertise on site to help with the survey and give technical application advice, and one of DSE's specialist, Support Engineer's attended.

LBIA currently have 5 generators fitted with DSE 509 modules operating emergency power for the main runway and approach lights, fire station and terminal buildings.  Site engineers needed the ability to carry out routine maintenance work on any of the generators without losing the emergency power supply.  This was particularly vital for the runway lighting as two gensets are used on a regular basis, as a precautionary safety measure, in times of bad weather when there is a higher chance of mains failure. This is a requirement of CAT III runway regulations.

It was decided therefore, to introduce a new mobile genset which could be simply plugged in when any of the existing sets were not available; for example during routine maintenance.  This meant that temporary loss of emergency power would no longer be an issue and aided regulation compliance.

The existing gensets are due to be refurbished and fitted with new DSE5320 Auto Mains Failure modules, which were chosen because of the functionality, support for the CAT III specification and for  their compatibility with a wide range of engine types, including electronic engines.

The site survey was completed in June 2007 and the project will be completed later in the year.
  •
A DSE customer training event was organised in August 2007 for Site Technology Ltd. at the customer’s premises in central Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Site Technology is a long established company specialising in all aspects of site management including integrated security, power, traffic and safety systems.

The Company, which is highly respected throughout the Emirates, has been using DSE control modules for many years but wanted to enhance their knowledge through DSE’s specialist training.

Tony Manton, DSE’s Customer Support Engineer, travelled to site to meet 9 of the customer’s top engineers from the Power Division. Taking part in the 2-day training experience, they covered all aspects of the DSEPower® and DSEControl® Series, which included recommendations for a number of different typical applications. In-depth question and answer sessions also enabled the engineers to cover technical topics relating to potential future projects which included load sharing and AMF solutions.

Mr Ayman Hegab, Service Manager for Diesel Generators at Site Technology Ltd., was delighted with the training course and believed it had proved a massive benefit for all his engineers.

This successful event was the latest of a series of training seminars undertaken by DSE’s Customer Support team who have, during 2007, also visited Greece, Russia, Cuba, Egypt, Brazil, Qatar, Ireland, Mexico, Peru, USA, Turkey and many sites throughout the UK.

  • The company has just finished assisting PowerOhm with the installation of a two set load sharing system in County Cork, Eire. The installation signalled the end of a highly in-depth project that the company had been involved with from the early stages.

The site owned by Centocor Inc a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson has been developed to concentrate on developing products for the detection and treatment of a wide number of human diseases.

The site consists of two sets that have been installed to provide mains back-up and no break return. Each set has a DSE5510 that is controlled by a DSE5560 to back-up one of two loads. The sets have been designed to run independently of each other and only parallel with the mains supply.

Image below shows one of the Gensets on site.

Centocor Inc only allowed a two hour window to finalise the commissioning of the two sets. Due to the high profile nature of the site it was important that the commissioning was finished during this period. Working closely with PowerOhm during the two hour window enabled the site to be set-up and left in full working condition.

Before the company left site, testing of the parallel operation, island mode and no break return were all successfully tested. As a result the end users were extremely pleased that their site was fully operational. It was also an excellent opportunity for the company to increase PowerOhm’s knowledge of load sharing and all the features within the DSEPower® Series.

Image below shows Centocor’s Irish Site.

  • The company has just successfully supplied its products for installation at the Halley VI Research Station in Antarctica.

Westac Power Ltd have built and tested four generating sets for the research station. The units have been designed in a unique power and heat configuration, where the generator engine not only provides the station with power but makes use of the waste heat to warm the buildings and also melt snow to provide fresh water.

The DSE controllers in use are the DSE5510 control modules, part of the DSEPower® Series. The DSE5510’s were chosen because of their load sharing capability, allowing all machines to be used to provide a common power supply for the entire station.

The site has four DSE5510’s working together, which control the output of each unit depending on the power and heat requirements. The intelligence of the control modules ensures that each unit is constantly working to its optimum output level.

The site also uses a DSE820 Interface Module so that all four DSE5510’s and units can be monitored remotely via the internet. This provides the user with peace of mind, as they can see that the site is operating at the correct levels from any remote location where internet access is available.

David Thomson, Sales & Marketing Director commented:

‘We are delighted to be involved with this project. It is fantastic that our controllers are going to be providing load share functionality within such an extreme environment. We designed the DSEPower® range of load share modules to offer the user outstanding features combined with simple, user-friendly set up and operating functions. We hope to work with Westac on many more projects of this kind in the future’.

Picture shows how the Halley VI Research Station will look upon completion:
